In the most recent May 2020 Comscore release, the total US internet audience increased by 1.24% YoY to 264.4 million unique visitors (UVs). Total minutes increased by 11.03% to just over 2 billion minutes.
- Google retained the top spot with 260.14 million UVs in May, up 3.23% YoY, followed by Microsoft (223.5m) and Facebook (223.5m).
- 98.7% of all US internet users visited a Google property in May.

What happened?
Google-owned Youtube was the greatest beneficiary of the COVID-19 pandemic in the media space. Youtube grew UVs by 3.82% to 241.6 million in May, but total minutes climbed 42.2%. Based on these results, 91.3% of all US citizens visited Youtube during the month.
Despite a decline of -8.6m UVs on Instagram during the month, Facebook grew UVs (including the rolled-up Instagram brand) by 2.88% with total minutes spiking 17.88%. Facebook rollup reached 84.5% of the total US audience.
TikTok was another big winner in May, reaching 66.1 million UVs, up more than 300% YoY.
